Pam Allcott, the new Latinx Cultural Center (LCC) coordinator of programs, and Nahomi Jimenez, USU’s first diversity outreach specialist, are focused on empowering Latino’s through the Aggie family. Allcott and Jimenez will work together and with other organizations, like Latinos in Action, to create an environment where Latinos can achieve academic, personal, and professional growth.

“We are setting out to build a relationship of trust between USU and multicultural populations,” said Jimenez. “As a first-generation student myself, I understand the difficulty of transitioning into a university. I also understand the power and strength that comes from overcoming the discomfort and immersing yourself in the Aggie family.”

Jimenez’s priority will be recruitment, outreach, and retention. Working with the Office of Admissions and the Office of Continuing Education and Concurrent Enrollment, she will attend and present at open houses, high school visits, churches, and more to begin building a strong foundation for prospective students to feel welcome into the Aggie family. Allcott will work with Jimenez on building these relationships, as well as educating the campus and public on issues affecting the Latinx community.

“Working with Nahomi, I hope to identify students who can benefit offered by the LCC from the very beginning of their time at USU,” said Allcott. “My main goal is to help students, faculty, and community members be successful in their education and their current and future employment.”

Allcott, a recent USU graduate, excelled as a student thanks to the help of advisors, mentors, and programs offered by USU. She had to find most of these resources on her own, and she hopes her new position as the LCC coordinator will put her in a position to introduce students to university support systems.
