One of Utah State University’s greatest selling points is the campus in Logan. Now, prospective students can get a better look of campus and student life through virtual reality (VR). Teaming up with Teaching & Learning Technologies, University Marketing & Communications recorded 360-degree videos throughout September of some of the Logan campus’ major events, including football games, Luminary Night, and Day on the Quad. Using a VR headset, users can view these events with a 360-degree perspective; they can physically turn around and get a complete look of Aggie life.

“To show off our beautiful campus, we’ve relied heavily on professional photos and videos. But capturing the student experience in a more authentic and realistic way is difficult,” said Katie North, director of Admissions. “VR technology allows us to more easily show what it is like to be a student here.”

The Oculus Quest headset allows users to view VR without being connect to a computer. The 360-degree videos are preloaded and just require you to select play with the controller. USU is one of the first universities in the Intermountain West to utilize this technology in off-campus recruiting efforts. If prospective students aren’t able to visit campus in person, this VR technology affords them the opportunity to immerse themselves in Aggie life wherever they are.

The first video being used begins with an introduction from a USU ambassador, then takes the user in a fly-over of Old Main and the Quad. Users get to watch a USU football touchdown from the end zone perspective in the Maverik Stadium, ride a Ferris wheel on the Quad, and watch a classroom lecture with real students. The video closes with a USU ambassador inviting them to visit USU in Logan in person to get the full Aggie experience.
