Registration has opened for the third annual Teaching for Learning Conference. It will take place March 21-22, 2019 at Utah State University in Logan. The conference theme is “Refresh and Reinforce Learning,” and all proposals must be submitted by December 10, 2018.

Proposals are encouraged to focus on topics related to innovative and engaging approaches to teaching and learning, such as:

  • Implementing strategies to both refresh and reinforce learning.
  • Planning appropriate scaffolds to improve student writing.
  • Providing opportunities to practice skills and receive feedback (formative assessment) in preparation for evaluative, graded performance (summative assessment).
  • Redesigning courses or curriculum to improve the student learning experience.
  • Adopting new technology tools to help learners engage with concepts and with each other in more effective ways.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Gail Rice, is a professor in the School of Allied Health Professions at Loma Linda University. Rice’s presentation will be based on her book “Hitting Pause,” focusing on two fundamental principles: shorter segments of instruction are better than longer ones, and learners who actively participate in instruction learn better than those who don't.
